Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday congratulated Halla Tomasdottir on her election as president of Iceland. 

In recent years, China-Iceland ties have maintained sound development, Xi noted.

Cooperation in fields including economy and trade, investment, geothermal, environmental protection, culture and tourism has made steady progress and achieved new results, he said.

Xi said he highly regards the development of bilateral ties and is willing to work with Tomasdottir to deepen political mutual trust, expand mutual beneficial cooperation and promote China-Iceland ties to a new stage.
