Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday congratulated Claudia Sheinbaum on her election as president of Mexico.

Mexico is a major country in Latin America and an emerging market, Xi noted, adding that China and Mexico are comprehensive strategic partners.

The bilateral ties have maintained sound development and are at a crucial time to build on past achievements and open up a new future, he said.

Xi said he highly regards the development of China-Mexico ties and stands ready to strengthen strategic communication with Sheinbaum to promote bilateral ties to a new level and better benefit the two peoples.
