Forced by Israel's continuous military operation since last October, over a million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have fled from the Rafah region, while animals at the local zoo have also been shifted to a temporary facility in Khan Younis.
CGTN's stringer in Gaza visited the Rafah Zoo, the special sanctuary amid the flames of war, and heard from the zookeeper, Fathi Gomaa, about the touching stories of him and the animals. Gomaa said he did his utmost to transfer most of the animals, but many, including three lions, were still in Rafah. He appealed to the international community for further assistance because, without care, these animals have no chance of survival.
