For their mutual survival on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, two small animals have established a special bond. The white-rumped snowfinch helps the pika, a relative of the rabbit, by watching out for predators as it burrows into the ground to build its nest. After protecting the pika in this way, the bird itself then nests in abandoned pika burrows, where it raises its young.
