The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Wednesday urged the United States to stop sending any form of wrong signals to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces.

Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the ministry, said Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and the Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair that brooks no foreign interference.

"Any pressure or threats cannot in any way shake the Chinese government and people's strong determination, will and ability to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country," said Mao.

She said the real status quo of the Taiwan Straits is that both sides belong to China, that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and that how to resolve the Taiwan question is a matter for the Chinese people.

The spokesperson urged the U.S. side to recognize the nature of the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces and their ambitions and abide by the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques.

The U.S. should also honor its commitment not to support "Taiwan independence," stop arming Taiwan and stop sending any wrong signals to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces in any form, she added.
