Wednesday is World Environment Day, a day when people are encouraged to protect the environment. This year's campaign focuses on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience.

Official data shows that China has stepped up its greening efforts over the past decade with 58.9 million hectares of forest planted. From 2018 to 2023, 23.3 million hectares of grassland have been improved through grass planting, and 12 million hectares of land saved from desertification.
