Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation with Narendra Modi and congratulated him on the success of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the recently concluded general parliamentary elections, the Kremlin said in a statement. 

"Putin and Modi expressed satisfaction with the current level of partnership between Russia and India, which will continue to expand in all directions," the Kremlin said, adding that the two leaders also agreed to continue constructive personal interaction.

Modi's party lost its majority in parliament in a humbling election result on Tuesday, forcing him to rely on the support of regional allies in order to govern for a third term, for which he is due to be sworn in on Saturday.
