Weiwu: Hakka walled villages

Once mistaken for missile silos, these gigantic fortress-like walled villages of the Hakka people are collectively known as "weiwu." They were once home to several generations of a family clan, who were self-sufficient and could defend themselves from marauding bandits by closing themselves off inside their fortress homes.
