A steel structure of the five Olympic rings was unveiled on the Eiffel Tower, one of the most iconic landmarks in Paris, on Thursday to mark the 50-day countdown to the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in the French capital.

The 29-meter-long and 15-meter-high Olympic logo was positioned on the south side of the Eiffel Tower and overlooks the River Seine, where the opening ceremony of the Games is scheduled to take place. The logo will be visible throughout the Games from July 26 to August 11.

"The manufacturing process began at ArcelorMittal's Chateauneuf and Le Creusot plants, where scrap steel was melted and pre-rolled, effectively giving that steel another life," the world's leading steel and mining company said in a statement. "The steel was then rolled at ArcelorMittal Dunkerque. Steel products were then delivered to a workshop near Epinal in the Vosges region, where steel plates were cut, bent and welded and then painted according to the necessary color specifications."

Besides showcasing the Olympic rings, the Eiffel Tower is also getting involved in the Games by contributing fragments of iron to the manufacturing of the medals for both the Olympics and the Paralympics.

"To celebrate the return of the Games to France, each Games medal is embellished with an original piece of the Eiffel Tower," the International Olympic Committee posted on its official website. "To create this meeting between the most prestigious object of the Games and the iconic monument of France and Paris, Paris 2024 worked on the design of the medal with Chaumet, an LVMH Group company, which is a Premium Partner of Paris 2024."
