Over 40 people were killed and dozens of others were injured on June 6 in an Israeli air strike targeting a UN-run school housing displaced people in the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip, according to the Hamas-run media office in Gaza. Israel Defense Forces said it was a targeted air strike on a Hamas compound operating inside the school, eliminating many people who participated in an attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

Stephane Dujarric, chief spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, condemned the attack and said that UN staff, UN premises and UN operations must be protected at all times.
