Qu Yuan and the origins of China's Dragon Boat Festival

For most people, China's traditional Dragon Boat Festival brings to mind Zongzi, or sticky rice dumplings, and dragon boat racing. However, its older connection is with the distinguished poet and loyal minister of the ancient State of Chu, Qu Yuan. This relationship imbues the festival with poetic elegance, allowing Chinese people to reflect on his great spirit of patriotism amid the romantic landscapes of mountains and rivers evoked in his classic verse.
