The 10th edition of the UK Chinese Dragon Boat Festival was held in Salford, Greater Manchester, Britain, on June 8 and 9.

Over 80 teams, both amateur and professional, participated in dragon boat racing at the event. The festival was first held in 2012 as one of the biggest dragon boat racing tournaments in Britain and even in Europe.

In addition, the organizers also arranged performances of martial arts, lion dance and dragon dance among other traditional Chinese cultural activities.

"We want to make the event more than a dragon boat race," Li Xuebing, vice president of Xinhua Chinese Association in Britain, told China Media Group. "We want to make it a platform to promote Chinese culture."

Locals participated in the artistic performances as well. "I'm happy to help represent that (the performances) in the UK," a performer said. "Hopefully, more Western people come to understand the fun you can have in the dragon boat race."

One of the biggest highlights in this year's festival was that two Premier League powerhouses, Manchester United and Manchester City, as well as a local rugby club, Salford Red Devils, sent representatives to the event for new forms of "Manchester Derby."
