"Taiwan independence", a twisting road leading to a dead end

Cartoon

Since Lai Ching-te took office as the new leader of the Taiwan region, he has incited cross-Strait tensions by aggressively promoting separatist rhetoric. Sensing a lucrative opportunity, representatives of 27 U.S. defense contractors, including Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, arrived in Taiwan on June 3. Locals on the island have dismissed these U.S. arms dealers for treating Taiwan as a "cash cow," only eyeing on profiteering.

The U.S. claims not to support "Taiwan independence," yet it sends delegations and issues statements to congratulate Lai Ching-te, a known "Taiwan independence" separatist, on his "inauguration." In recent years, some anti-China U.S. forces have distorted UNGA Resolution 2758, which recognizes the People's Republic of China (PRC) as the only legitimate representative of China to the UN and Taiwan's status as an inalienable part of China. By repeatedly violating the one-China principle and the three joint communiqués, the U.S. emboldens "Taiwan independence" separatists. The duplicity unveils the U.S.'s intent to use Taiwan question to contain China.

However, no matter how the situation on the island changes and how external forces interfere, the fact that the two sides across the Taiwan Straits belong to one and the same China has never been changed. China's reunification is an inevitable historical trend. Pursuing "Taiwan independence" is a road leading to a dead end, and supporting it leads nowhere.
