According to the latest reports from the state's civil defense agency, 175 people have died from floods in southern Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul state.

More than 800 people have been injured and 38 are still missing, said the agency.

Since April 29, floods triggered by record rains have affected over 2.3 million people, which is around 20 percent of the state's population. Over 423,400 people are displaced while more than 18,800 still live in temporary shelters. More than two-thirds of the nearly 500 cities in the state are still under the impact of this historical disaster, according to the civil defense agency.

The agency warns that heavy rainfall is expected to hit the state again from June 14 to 17.
