The center-right European People's Party has secured the most seats in the European Parliament elections. But far-right parties gained ground, which may make it tougher to pass new legislation. Cui Hongjian, director of the Center for European Union and Regional Development Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University, says an increase in economic protectionism and trade friction may be a consequence of the far-right gains across the EU.
