Spectacular scale-shaped tidal bores were recently filmed by a tide-watcher along the Qiantang River in east China's Zhejiang Province. The tidal bores are formed by the rapid rise of tidal waters in the river channel, creating layer upon layer of undulating waves. This extraordinary tidal phenomenon lasts a mere 10 to 15 minutes from start to finish.

The Qiantang River is famous for having the largest tidal bores in the world, attracting hundreds of thousands of spectators every year.
