The busy summer herding season has begun in Altay, Xinjiang. The summer migration, known for its grandeur, takes place every June, driven by the pursuit of water and grasslands. In Fuhai County, the migration started on Monday and is expected to run for 3 to 5 days. More than 400,000 head of livestock are set to traverse the ancient herding routes to the lush summer pastures in the Altai Mountains. The nomadic life of driving livestock to different pastures at certain times of the year has been observed by local herders for thousands of years.
