China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, grew 0.3 percent in May, maintaining an upward trend for four consecutive months, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

NBS chief statistician Dong Lijuan explained that the overall consumer market remains stable, with a slight seasonal decrease in the month-on-month CPI of 0.1 percent, and a year-on-year increase the same as in April.

The country's producer price index (PPI) dropped 1.4 percent in May from a year earlier, easing from a slide of 2.5 percent in the previous month.
Influenced by factors such as the upward trend in international commodity prices and improvements in the supply and demand relationship in the domestic industrial market, the month-on-month PPI in the country has shifted from a decline of 0.2 percent in April to an increase of 0.2 percent in May, while the year-on-year decline has narrowed.
