Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with the governor of Russia's Irkutsk region, Igor Kobzev, in the city of Irkutsk on Wednesday.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, said that as China is advancing its modernization and Russia is accelerating the development of the Far East, the two countries are facing historic opportunities for cooperation.
He noted that local cooperation is an important part of China-Russia ties and that the Irkutsk region, with its rich natural resources and a strong industrial base, has unique advantages in collaborating with China.
China supports closer and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries' local provinces and cities for the benefit of the two peoples, the Chinese foreign minister said.
Noting that China is the largest trading partner of the Irkutsk region and that their trade has maintained a strong growth momentum, Kobzev expressed a willingness to further expand exchanges and cooperation with China in the fields of agriculture, energy resources, culture, education and tourism to attract more Chinese investment and provide a better business environment for Chinese enterprises.
