A commercial cargo ship was struck twice in attacks in the Red Sea off Yemen's western coast on Wednesday, leaving one crew member missing and the vessel adrift, Yemeni and maritime officials reported.

An official at the government's Coast Guard forces, requesting anonymity, said that the Greek-owned bulk carrier Tutor came under assault approximately 67.7 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah, when an explosives-laden boat detonated at the stern, causing hull breach and flooding.

Of the 21 crew members of different nationalities aboard the ship, one has been declared missing in the first attack, the official said. The ship was then hit again by "an unknown airborne projectile" in a second attack.

The Houthis later claimed responsibility. The group's military spokesman, Yahya Sarea, said they targeted the ship using "an unmanned boat, several drones and ballistic missiles." He said the operation caused "severe damage" to the vessel and put it "at risk of sinking."

Sarea justified the attack by accusing the cargo ship's owner of violating a Houthi ban on entering Israeli ports.

Sarea also claimed the group launched attacks on two Israeli cities of Ashdod and Haifa on Wednesday, employing cruise missiles and drones. But there has been no official statement from the Israeli side on the Houthi-claimed attacks.
