China's sailing team continue to make waves at home in Jinzhou, northeast China's Liaoning Province. The team is currently competing at the National Windsurfing Championship, an event that marks their final hurdle ahead of the Olympics.
The Chinese sailors have been on a long winning streak since December, achieving victory in five events at the Asian Sailing Championship. That result secured them five Olympic places. The team then earned four more spots thanks to solid showings at the Hague World Championships and the Hangzhou Asian Games last year. All this has resulted in a record nine places for Paris, the highest number for the team, except the Beijing 2008 Games. After winning one gold and a silver in Tokyo three years ago, team leader Zhang Xiguang wants a better performance in France.
"Our training results have been extremely promising. The wind conditions in Jinzhou are ideal, and our team arrived early at the competition site to align with the national team's training schedule. Our daily training sessions mirror the intensity of the actual competition, creating an atmosphere that's conducive to peak performance," Zhang said.
