One athlete who is guaranteed to feature at the Paris Olympics is Rifda Irfanaluthfi, the first Indonesian gymnast to qualify for the Games.

The 24-year-old started out with swimming, then switched to gymnastics when she was six. The lady from Jakarta has enjoyed great success in the Southeast Asian region with 13 SEA Games medals, including four gold and a silver at the 2018 Asian Games.

She qualified for Paris through her performance at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Belgium last year, with an all-round performance on the vault, floor, uneven bars and balance beam. However, after a sharp landing on the uneven bars at that event, she needed knee surgery. It has been two years since the accident and Rifda is now readying herself for the Paris Games.

"Sometimes I do compare myself to others. Other athletes are brilliant, and I'm not. I do still think like that sometimes, but I would tell myself that I can do that too, I'm also capable. For this Olympics, my target isn't a gold medal, so I should be more composed," Irfanaluthfi said.
