Iran's Caretaker Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, on Thursday, highlighted the need to enhance bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of security, energy, education and transportation.
In a meeting in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the two sides discussed regional and international issues of common interest, including the Gaza situation, Iran's official news agency IRNA reported.
During the meeting, Bagheri Kani praised Iraq's "pivotal" role in improving stability in the region, adding that Iran supports Iraq's efforts in implementing its "Development Road" project, a highway and railway trade route connecting Asia with Europe, and is ready to participate in it.
The Iraqi prime minister, for his part, stressed that his country would continue improving relations with Iran and strengthening the bases of the two countries' "constructive" cooperation, noting that such cooperation and the deepening of bilateral relations would safeguard the two countries' interests and lead to their growth and prosperity.
Bagheri Kani arrived in Baghdad for a two-day visit on Thursday.
