Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan hit a half-century as Bangladesh beat the Netherlands by 25 runs in Kingstown, St. Vincent, on Thursday to close in on a spot in the Super 8 stage of the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
Opener Tanzid Hasan hit 35 off 26 balls, including five fours and one six. The 37-year-old Shakib scored 64, with the Dutch struggling to get him out. Bangladesh eventually posted a total of 159/5 from their 20 overs.
In response, the Dutch got themselves in a decent position at 111-3 with more than five overs to go, with Michael Levitt, Max O'Dowd and Vikramjit Singh all reaching double figures. However, the Bangladesh bowlers rallied and caused a Dutch batting collapse, restricting the European side to 134/8 in their 20 overs.
Bangladesh will face Nepal in their final group match, and the Netherlands will meet Sri Lanka in another Group D game.
