China defeated Germany 3-0 at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Women's Volleyball Nations League (VNL) in south China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on Friday, securing qualification for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris.
China outscored their opponents 25-19, 25-17 and 25-18 in Friday's match. Yuan Xinyue and Li Yingying both scored 13 points for the team. Zhu Ting contributed 12 points and scored a key spike in the first set to build good momentum for China. Wang Yuanyuan added 10 points.
Cai Bin, head coach of China, told reporters after the match that his team never had any doubt about their qualification for Paris. Claiming the Olympic qualification was only the first step; according to Cai, his team will continue to refine their performance.
"We will spare no efforts at the Paris Olympics in every match to display the best spirit of the Chinese women's national team," Cai said.
The coach also spoke highly of Zhu's role in the team. "Zhu is a very experienced player and her control of the pace in the match was significant," Cai told reporters.
"We are so glad to return to the Olympics," Gong Xiangyu said after the match. "But we will continue to focus on preparing for the next two VNL matches and give our best in them."
China will play Türkiye on Sunday and Poland on Monday.
