Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's recent revelations about being offered outside help to win her country's January 7 elections if she permits a foreign country to establish a military airbase in Bangladesh have led to speculations that the Central Intelligence Agency is plotting to carve out an "East-Timor-like Christian nation" from parts of Bangladesh, Myanmar and India, according to GOA Chronicle, an Indian news website.

The prime minister was quoted as saying that a "white man" who met her before the January elections had assured her that she would face no obstacles in securing a victory if she allowed the establishment of the proposed airbase.

The unnamed "white man" mentioned has led many to speculate about the involvement of the United States, given its historical interest in the region, reported GOA Chronicle.

Bangladesh has made no official comments on the matter.
