Continuous torrential rains have battered southern China's Guangdong Province, claiming at least five lives in Meizhou, the hardest-hit city. Several towns and villages have suffered roadblocks and damage to power and communication lines. Over 130,000 households in Meizhou were without power on Monday morning, and classes were suspended. Guangdong initiated a Level III emergency response on Monday. Tens of thousands have been evacuated. The authorities are still trying to reach those trapped and locate the missing.
