A Maine State Police tactical team killed a man after an hours-long standoff in which he shot at officers, two homes burned down and a person who fought with him apparently died.
Police said 43-year-old Leein Hinkley broke into a house in Auburn on June 15 and fired shots at officers from the home, which caught fire along with another house. Auburn Deputy Police Chief Timothy Cougle said the shelter-in-place orders and evacuations during the standoff brought back tragic memories of last year's mass shooting in neighboring Lewiston.
