A remarkable collection of 788 precious artifacts from seven major Egyptian museums accompanying the latest archaeological discoveries from Saqqara arrived in Shanghai on Sunday on a specially chartered plane. These artifacts are set to be showcased in the upcoming exhibition "On Top of the Pyramid: Exhibition of the Civilization of Ancient Egypt" at the Shanghai Museum this July. On June 17, the colossal statue of Akhenaten and a painted anthropoid coffin from the Saqqara archaeological site were the first to be unveiled at the Shanghai Museum.

Highlights of the exhibition include statues of pharaohs such as Tutankhamun, Amenemhat III, and Ramses II, a complete set of mummy coffins, exquisite queen jewelry, and newly discovered painted coffins, animal mummies, and statues from the Saqqara region of Egypt.

Opening with a grand ceremony on July 18 and open to the public from July 19, the exhibition promises to be the largest and most prestigious display of ancient Egyptian artifacts ever to leave Egypt. The exhibition will run for nearly 13 months, ending on August 17, 2025.
