Rishengchang Draft Bank in Pingyao, Shanxi Province was the first modern bank in China. As such, it played a key role in promoting the circulation of money and the development of industry and commerce in the 19th and 20th centuries. As the home of Chinese banking, Pingyao became known for its great wealth and thriving economy 200 years ago.
