South China is battling heavy downpours that have triggered landslides, caused power outages and buried crops. In Jiangxi Province, the Ganjiang River has seen the second flood of the year, affecting more than 365,000 people. Further south, Guangdong's Meizhou saw the highest flood level on record on Sunday, with water inundating villages and destroying roads, homes and power infrastructure. Residents were seen being airlifted to shelters.

Police in Meizhou's Pingyuan County dispatched drones to locate trapped individuals and deliver supplies before water levels were safe enough for officers to carry people to safety. The central government has issued repeated calls to step up disaster prevention and preparedness in anticipation of more severe weather events.
