China's transportation networks grew to over six million kilometers in 2023, having the world's largest high-speed rail network, expressway network, postal express delivery network and an interconnected network of world-class port facilities.
Fixed-asset investment in the country's transport system totaled 3.9 trillion yuan (about $548.7 billion) in 2023, a record high. Last year saw 2,776 kilometers of high-speed rail lines put into service and 6,394 kilometers of expressways newly built or expanded. Rural transportation facilities continued to improve last year, with 188,000 kilometers of new or rebuilt roads completed in rural areas.
