Film enthusiasts, tourists and locals experienced the charming Latin American culture during the "Latin American Fiesta" carnival, held from June 15 to 18 at the Shanghai International Tourism Resort and several areas in Pudong, east China's Shanghai.

A new feature of the Belt and Road Film Week segment of this year's Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), the carnival impressed attendees with passionate samba and tango performances, soulful Latin American melodies, vibrant traditional costume displays, films and delicious food.

Themed the "Path of Courage," the Belt and Road Film Week, which ran from June 15 to 18, highlighted the internal power that drives people to grow. Eighteen films were screened during the period, showcasing the various landscapes and cultures of different countries.

Eva Nathena, director of "Murderess," and Battsooj Uurtsaikh, an actor in the film "If Only I Could Hibernate," both received Media Choice Awards for best filmmaker. The Media Choice Award for best film went to the Chilean Western drama "The Settlers." Meanwhile, Chinese film "The Midsummer's Voice" took home the Audience Choice Award.

Various events, such as screenings, post-screening Q&As and promotion gatherings, were held to facilitate international film cooperation.

During the film week, over 40 foreign filmmakers from 18 countries and regions along the Belt and Road routes gathered in Shanghai's Pudong for extensive exchanges alongside more than 20 Chinese and foreign film institutions.

2024 marks the sixth anniversary of SIFF's initiative to establish the Belt and Road Film Festival Alliance and the launch of the Belt and Road Film Week. Today, the Belt and Road Film Festival Alliance has 55 member institutions from 48 countries, and the Belt and Road Film Week receives entries from these member institutions.

The platform is seeing a growing number of Chinese and global filmmakers as it serves as a channel for introducing films and gaining understanding.
