Zheng Qinwen of China lost to Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-4 in a Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Berlin Open singles second round match on Thursday.

The match was originally scheduled to take place on Wednesday, but the court grew too slippery for the competition to continue due to the weather. The contest was suspended with Siniakova leading 5-3 in the first set and resumed on Thursday.

The Czech qualifier didn't let her lead go and soon won the first set 6-4.

Zheng launched a slew of fierce attacks in the second set and served more aces than her opponent. The pair exchanged two breaks in the set before the score reached 4-4.

In the decisive ninth game, Siniakova converted another break to begin her service game with a 5-4 lead.

The final game remained close before Siniakova brought up match point. In the end, Zheng hit the ball out of bounds, losing to her European opponent for the second time in three career meetings.

Thursday's match marked the second win Siniakova secured over a Top-10 player in 2024. She also advanced to a WTA Tour quarterfinal for the first time this year.
