The number of people killed in wildfires that swept through southeast Türkiye has risen to 11, the country's health minister said on Friday.
"11 people lost their lives" when the fires hit several villages in Mardin and Diyarbakir provinces, Fahrettin Koca wrote on social media platform X.
A fire broke out on Thursday night in the cultivated areas between the Cinar district of Diyarbakir province and Mazidagi district in Mardin province, and was fueled by wind and quickly spread over a wide area.
Local authorities have issued warnings about the high risk of forest fires due to the forecasted extreme heat and dry weather conditions during the week.
Türkiye often sees forest fires in summer, especially in its western and southern regions.
