Tianshui City in northwest China's Gansu Province is known as the "Hometown of Emperor Fuxi," where the mythical ancestor of the Chinese nation is said to have been born. On June 21, the Grand Memorial Ceremony for Fuxi was held in the city. Fuxi, revered as the "first of the Three Sovereigns" and the "foremost of the Hundred Kings", is credited with creating the Eight Diagrams, teaching people fishing and hunting, inventing writing, establishing the calendar and creating marriage rituals.
