Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, has reportedly been in talks with Apple Inc. about incorporating Meta's generative AI model into Apple's newly unveiled AI system for iPhones, according to a Sunday report by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
In addition to Meta and Google, AI startups Anthropic and Perplexity have also been in discussions with Apple to integrate their generative AI into Apple Intelligence, the news outlet said, citing sources familiar with the matter.
However, the discussions are not yet finalized and could potentially collapse, WSJ noted. If successful, these deals would enable AI companies to expand the distribution of their products significantly. The potential financial benefits from these partnerships remain uncertain, but the discussions have included the possibility of AI companies offering premium subscriptions to their services via Apple Intelligence.
This month, Apple announced its long-anticipated AI strategy, which includes integrating the new Apple Intelligence technology into its suite of apps, including Siri, and bringing the Microsoft-backed OpenAI chatbot, ChatGPT, to its devices.
