The vibrant colors and beautiful patterns of tie-dyed fabrics in Dali, Yunnan Province have attracted many tourists to try their hand at creating their own tie-dyed pieces. This traditional craft of the local Bai ethnic group involves using handwoven white cloth and dyes derived from plants. The tie-dyeing process includes three main steps: knotting the cloth, dipping and dyeing it, and then sun-drying it. Renowned for its authentic and natural aesthetic, Bai tie-dyeing was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2006.
