The International Criminal Court (ICC) judges on Tuesday issued arrest warrants for Russian Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov and former Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on charges of directing attacks against civilian objects and civilians in Ukraine from at least October 10, 2022, until at least March 9, 2023.

The ICC has already issued several arrest warrants for Russian leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, over war crime allegations as the Russia-Ukraine conflict has dragged on since February 2022.

Russia's security council has dismissed Tuesday's warrants as "insignificant" and called them part of a hybrid war against Moscow, the state-run news agency TASS reported.

Moscow has repeatedly denied the war crime allegations and labeled the ICC warrants as "outrageous and unacceptable."

In September 2023, Russia placed then-ICC President Piotr Hofmanski on the country's wanted list.

Russia is not an ICC member state.
