China's Commerce Ministry said on Wednesday that the country is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposed to the EU listing Chinese firms in the bloc's 14th sanctions package against Russia.

"China urges the EU side to bear in mind the overall interests of the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership and unconditionally stop listing Chinese companies," the ministry said in a statement, vowing to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese firms.

The Chinese ministry said the EU move against Chinese firms is unilateral sanctions and "long-arm jurisdiction" that have no basis in international law and no mandate from the UN Security Council.

"Such move goes against the spirit of the consensus reached by the leaders of China and the EU and has a negative impact on China-EU economic and trade relations," the statement said.
