The 2024 China Agricultural Conference for International Economic and Trade Cooperation opened in Beijing on June 25. Highlighting green intelligence and global supply chains, the conference has attracted over 300 participants from various countries, including diplomats as well as representatives from international organizations, business associations, local councils and the corporate world.
Yu Jianlong, Vice Chairman of the China Chamber of International Commerce, said at the opening ceremony that as the world faces food security challenges, the Chinese business community will continue to share development opportunities with their counterparts worldwide to maintain the resilience of the international agricultural supply chain.
In recent years, Zhang Zhongjun, the acting FAO representative in China, has emphasized that the organization will continue to work with all parties to serve China's rural areas, share China's experiences, and promote green agricultural development to facilitate the transformation of modern agricultural and food systems.
The Ambassador of Jordan to China, Hussam Al Husseini attended the event and delivered a keynote speech. He said in the face of global challenges such as food security and climate change, "concerted and swift action is necessary." He said since the establishment of a strategic partnership between Jordan and China in 2015, economic and trade cooperation between the two countries in agriculture has continued to deepen.
China's agriculture sector has continuously broadened green transformation and seen higher-level green development in recent years. According to a report released by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and China Agricultural Green Development Research Society, the country modernized 505 large and medium-sized irrigation districts and restored and improved irrigation areas of 33.7 million mu (about 2.25 million hectares) in 2022 – significantly enhancing the production capacity of grain and important agricultural products. By the end of 2022, China had built 102 bases for organic agricultural products and 748 standardized production bases for green food raw materials, with a total area of over 168 million mu.
