Tariffs on Chinese EVs driven by election pressure in U.S.

01:25

Harvard Kennedy School Professor Graham Allison, known for coining the term "Thucydides Trap," commented that U.S. President Joe Biden's imposition of 100 percent tariffs on Chinese EVs was driven by political pressures from the 2024 presidential election. He argues that the U.S. is unlikely to abandon protectionism in its automotive industry for similar political reasons. He made the comment to CGTN during Summer Davos 2024 held in Dalian, northeast China's Liaoning Province.
