CGTN, Kazakhstan's Silk Way launch joint programs at SCO Summit

CGTN and Kazakh TV channel Silk Way have launched a series of joint programs ahead of the 2024 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Astana, scheduled from July 3 to July 4.

The joint programs feature a teleconference that connects studios in Beijing and Astana, with anchors from two countries engaging in discussions on various SCO-related themes. Scholars and experts from both countries contribute their insights on the SCO's development and agenda.

Two special segments will be presented by senior journalists from CGTN and Silk Way TV, which will highlight the achievements of the SCO and bilateral relations between China and Kazakhstan. It covers diverse topics, including government-to-government connections, economic cooperation and cultural exchanges. 

Additionally, a roundtable discussion will also be jointly held at Silk Way's headquarters in Astana.

During a visit to Silk Way's headquarters in Astana, Xu Zhaoqun, deputy director of CGTN's news gathering department, emphasized the alignment of missions and commitments between CGTN and Silk Way TV.

Xu expressed prospects for expanding collaboration in breaking news coverage, program production and reporting on significant regional events.

Ainur Imangali, editor-in-chief of Silk Way TV, underscored the importance of media in fostering mutual understanding among cultures. She highlighted expectations for enhanced collaboration between national broadcasters during the SCO Summit.

The joint programs are slated to air by the end of June on CGTN and Silk Way's TV channels, as well as their digital media platforms.

Silk Way, the first national satellite TV channel of the Republic of Kazakhstan, is broadcast in Kazakh, Russian, English, Turkish, Kyrgyz and Uzbek across 118 countries worldwide.
