Marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France, a new contemporary art exhibition aimed at promoting Sino-French artistic exchange officially opened in Chengdu, Sichuan province, on Thursday. The exhibition aims to foster in-depth interaction and exchange between the new generation of contemporary artists from both countries through a multicultural, cross-border perspective. Our reporter Gong Ming has more.
The latest contemporary art exhibition "Augmented Paris" presented by Chengdu's Zhi Art Museum in collaboration with The Foundation for Art and Culture, stands as Southwest China's most anticipated international art event. Featuring over 60 contemporary artworks by 25 emerging artists from 10 countries associated with POUSH, Europe's largest artist incubator, the exhibition spans diverse mediums including painting, installations, sculptures, and videos.
YVANNOE KRUGER Curator, Exhibition "Augmented Paris" "The show is to display a glimpse of what's happening in Paris and offer it to the public here in Chengdu, for them to travel. For me, this place, this exhibition is like one ticket to meet the French and international artists who work in Paris today."
To promote deeper interaction and exchanges between contemporary artists from China and France, two artists were invited to the museum to create on-site works. Inspired by the rich diversity of local Sichuan culture, including the ancient Shu civilization and intangible cultural heritage, they creatively explored the fusion of Eastern and Western cultures in their works.
MARLON DE AZAMBUJA Artist "My experience here is my first time in China. It's much more opening, much more complex. A lot of things is unique here I never see. So I try to work with this. Maybe not everyone, but some parts this is inside of your city. I like this idea about construct a portrait, about the bones, about the essence of this place."
HUGO AVIGO Artist "It was great to use an international object like there's elevator in every country. It goes up and down. It's like a breathing system, like meditation system. So I turn this object into something peaceful. I was more thinking about this kind of futuristic Chinese architecture from the future. And I think it's what inspire me always in a new city like Chengdu for example."
The exhibition aims to bridge Eastern and Western cultures, creating a vibrant artistic space that connects tradition with modernity, local with global.
WANG CONGHUI Director, Zhi Art Museum "It's quite universal and cross the border that is how art can affected everyone of us. As a private museum in China, it is our long term mission to promote the east aesthetic and the traditional Chinese culture in the contemporary way to the international audience. But we try to make it a combination of a joint creation of both east and west."
The exhibition runs until November 30. During this time, more international artists will be invited to Chengdu for on-site creations, highlighting the vibrant exchange between Eastern and Western cultures and the new vitality of global contemporary art inspired by Eastern aesthetics.
