Mount Wutai, located in north China's Shanxi Province, is one of the Four Great Buddhist Mountains of China. It is a magnet for tourists, who are drawn here not only by its profound Buddhist cultural heritage, but also by its spectacular natural scenery.
The mountain is noted for its unique topography marked by five flattened peaks, hence the name "Wutai", or "Five Terraces." The five, each with its own characteristics and distinct shape, are Wanghai East Peak, Guayue West Peak, Jinxiu South Peak, Yedou North Peak and Cuiyan Central Peak. Soaring into the clouds, together they resemble a magnificent work crafted by nature.
