A stretch of over 100 ghost plants has been found in Yushe National Forest Park in Liupanshui, a city in Guizhou Province. This is the third consecutive year that the endangered species has appeared in the park.
The parasitic ghost plant, or Indian pipe, is a herbaceous perennial plant that does not contain chlorophyll. Instead, it relies on decaying plant matter for nutrients. Due to their rarity and unique characteristics, ghost plants have been placed on the "Red List of Chinese Biodiversity-Higher Plants Volume" and the "IUCN Red List of Threatened Species." The plants are nationally recognized as a threatened species in China.
