Experts and scholars have held in-depth discussions on the role of Asia in shaping global governance and development. Wang Mengjie reports.

Fairness, justice and win-win cooperation, China's Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence is a long-standing cornerstone of its foreign policy. Seventy years on, some experts say China plays a crucial role in global governance in a world facing increasing uncertainties.

MARTIN JACQUES Former Senior Fellow, Cambridge University "The Five Principles will be extremely advanced thinking for the period, because they actually captured that historic moment what was going to be a big problem, which is, was their independent going to be respected, was their sovereignty going to be violated. So, this is absolutely critical framework for their development."

From the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence to Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind, experts believe China has remained true to its original diplomatic mission of promoting global harmony, cooperation, and progress.

STEPHEN BRAWER Chairman, Belt and Road Institute in Sweden "The world is changing, and China, although it is a developing country, it is a highly well-developed global influence, that has transformed its development over the last 40 years, has transformed the possibility for nations in areas which included the original agreements for the Five Principles of peaceful coexistence."

To better promote the Five Principles under new circumstances, a series of sub-forums is also focused on the role of Asian wisdom in answering the call for peace, development, and cooperation.

MARTIN JACQUES Former Senior Fellow, Cambridge University "Asia is over half of the world's population. The transformation has been taking place, global transformation since 1954, it's above all about Asia. It's also about Africa, it's also about Latin America. But Asia is where China is, India is, ASEAN is, so we are talking about big and powerful entities."

Confirming Asia's key role in global development, the former senior fellow of Cambridge University said the process when addressing common challenges has been driven from and in Asia.

WANG MENGJIE Beijing "The world is one family. As we commemorate the 70th anniversary of the five principles, it's also a golden opportunity to reaffirm the importance of mutual respect, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence in fostering a more inclusive and sustainable world order."
