Defending champions Australia overcame China 96-79 to successfully retain the Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) U18 Women's Asia Cup title on Sunday.
Zhang Ziyu had 42 points and 14 rebounds for China, but four Australian players scored in double-digits to secure the trophy and upset the home fans.
Zhang went 18-of-36 from the floor but only made half of her 12 shots from the free throw line.
The 17-year-old was selected as the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP), despite her team coming up short in the championship contest.
"It was an important game for me. I had regrets, but it was also a good opportunity for me to improve myself. I hope I can do better next time," Zhang said.
Australia led 49-42 in the first half. After the break, Zhang sparked an 8-0 run that moved China in front before Saffron Shiels scored five straight points to regain the advantage for Australia, whose 12-0 run in the last quarter helped seal the victory.
