On July 3 and 4, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit will be held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. The summit is the annual regular meeting of the SCO's highest body, the Council of Heads of Member States, which will make decisions and instructions on major issues within the organization. Kazakhstan holds the SCO's annual rotating presidency and is therefore responsible for hosting this year's summit.
CGTN Stringer took to the streets of Kazakhstan to explore local people's understanding of the SCO and their expectations for future cooperation among SCO member states. Olzhas, a student, said the SCO has a profound impact on the economy of Kazakhstan, the whole of Asia and even the world economy. Muhammad, an expert in international relations, said that from an economic point of view, the SCO has always played a positive role and the continuous increase in trade volume has aided the development of various countries. Muhammad also said that for Central Asian countries, especially Kazakhstan, the SCO has contributed to delivering visa-free travel to China. Many people want to travel to China, and many people have seized the opportunity to do business with China.
