A group of foreign diplomats in China from countries including Jordan, Afghanistan and Myanmar visited a boarding school in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region recently.

Upon arriving at Lhasa Experimental Primary School branch, the diplomats were warmly welcomed by students with traditional Tibetan dances, one of the many diverse courses the school offers to preserve local culture.

The Jordanian and Afghan ambassadors to China wrote their greetings on the blackboard in Arabic and Pashto respectively when immersing themselves in a calligraphy class.

"I was very much impressed by the focus on the ethnic part the school teaches the classes. At the same time, there are other academic lines of education," said Jordanian Ambassador to China Hussam Al Husseini.

"I felt that the local culture is well preserved in these courses of education. And I think the whole story of this school says a lot about the efforts that are being made to improve the life of the Tibetan people," the ambassador added.

"I'm impressed by the systematic way the students are being educated here. It is the best thing I've seen, and it's promising for the country," Afghan Ambassador to China M. Asadullah Bilal Karimi said.

Touring the student's dormitories, they learned that the school has over 1,400 students, and 840 of them are boarding. Those who live in the school spend weekends with their families.

Xizang has established a 15-year government-funded education system, with meals, lodging and tuition from kindergarten to senior high school.
